Lead Seal Single Slip Liner Hanger

The RIGGER ENGINEERING lead seal liner hanger was once very common and is still especially effective in gravel packing operations where a slotted liner is to be hung in a producing zone. The less expensive lead provides a low pressure seal that is good up to about 1,000 psi. and effectively isolates the producing zone located below the hanger. The regular action type of hanger is designed such that, if the liner is heavy enough, it will generally set the seal once the releasing assembly is disengaged. Additional weight from the rig will complete the process and the weight of the liner will keep the seal in compression. Slip design is the same as with the plain hanger with the same weight limitation of about 80,000 pounds. Other types of seals can be substituted for lead. Neoprene rubber and EPDM rubber are common. Viton or aflast are other types of high temperature rubber seals with different properties but also tend to be expensive alternatives. All of these seals have pressure ratings of about 3,000 psi.
